Key Sustainability Initiatives

Sustainability is the very bedrock of Adirondack Field.  Located in the heart of the largest protected landscape east of the Rockies, New York’s Adirondack Park, conservation, stewardship, and appreciation are at the core of our ethos.  In every product we make, we ask how production impacts the environment from the very first step.  We’re pleased to highlight just some of the key initiatives we’ve implemented to reduce our strain on the environment.

Always American Made American Made isn’t a political statement; it’s a commitment to ethical and sustainable manufacturing. From lower carbon emissions from shorter supply chains to strong environmental regulations on liquid waste discharge and air emissions, making products in America is inherently more sustainable than nearly anywhere else on the planet.

Carbon-Beneficial and Regenerative Knits  Adirondack Field is a member of the New York Carbon Farm Network, an interdependent group of small brands and independent designers sourcing Climate Beneficial™ fibers from Upstate New York farms that are implementing Carbon Farm Practices on their lands. Our Wadhams Collection knits are all made using this unique and special fiber.  Meet our farms here.

Knit-to-Order Cashmere and Merino Wool  Not every product sells.  To reduce waste, we partnered with a heritage Brooklyn factory to implement knit-to-order sweater manufacturing that avoids the unnecessary production of items that were never sold.

Conservation Support  Did you know that ⅙ of the proceeds from each Conservation Cap sold is donated to local and regional conservation organizations? This year, 100% of funds have gone to the Barkeater Trails Alliance, a 501(c)(3) building sustainable multiuse trails on protected lands across the Adirondacks.

Microplastics-Free Tees  Our Cloudsplitter Organic tees (in-store only) are garment dyed with natural, water-based inks in the last garment dye facility in the American South.  This process eliminates the need for screen printing and the associated pollutants that come with it.  That’s right, every time the design on your t-shirt fades, that's millions of microplastics going into waterways and ultimately into the water we drink and food we eat.

Organic Cotton From our Woodlands Organic Collection flannels to the cotton/yak lining of our Copperas Wax Cotton Jacket, we use organic cotton wherever possible.  Conventional cotton is one of the most pesticide-intensive crops in the world, and those chemicals leach into soil and waterways, harming farm workers and disrupting local ecosystems.  Organic cotton eliminates that damage by relying on natural growing methods instead.

Built To Last  Our garments are built for the long haul.  Nothing is better for the environment than buying one product, and having it last.  We can't promise forever, but we build for it.
